The coprinus mushroom is commonly referred to as the Shaggy Inkcap or the Lawyer’s Wig. The “ink” is produced by liquefying the gills for better spore distribution. This liquefaction causes the cap to turn upward when the spores have matured so they are better positioned to be caught by the wind.

Explore the subject by using the + and - buttons to zoom in and out. The image will load more tiles as more zoom is used. This is indicated by a loading icon that will appear under the Full Screen Button which is located below the zoom out button. When viewing the specimen there are pins for information available and if you click the magnified callouts a living image will appear. To get an unobstructed view of the specimen click the layers button on the upper right. This will allow you to select full specimen. Full specimen mode allows for more zoom.
