Squirrels are common rodents, with about 280 different species. Flying squirrels have been known to glide for up to almost 300 feet. Chipmunks are a type of squirrel, just smaller and with stripes. The large, bushy tail of the squirrel is used as a signaling device to alert other squirrels to a potential danger.
